NATURE’S ARTISTRY

365 DAYS OF THANKSLIVING — DAY 29

NATURE'S ARTISTRY

I often gaze upon the heavens and the landscapes that surround us and marvel at God’s creation. I find it hard to believe that any aspect of creation is purely accident, coincidence, or sculpted by natural processes only. In all this, my mind often drifts to ask the unanswerable: what level of artistic expression does the Lord employ to affect nature’s artistry? Case in point, the snow.

Twenty days ago, (I can’t believe it was that long ago), I wrote about my love for snow, especially playing in it. Yesterday we experienced a blizzard, not because of the total snow per se, but because of the wind. And those winds, oh my how beautifully they sculpted the snow surrounding our home. Consider the pictures accompanying this post.

This morning, I let the pups out around golden hour; when we ventured back in, I opened the shades to let some of that warmth within. Right there, dazzling my eyes, were these nearly perfect domes of snow covering the shrubs. The bushes aren’t that round, yet the snow covering them was.

Zooming out, I tried to take in the whole scene. As though I were a kid again, I imagined the walls transformed into a gingerbread house—sculpted sheets of snow draping from the eves; globs of snow like royal icing hanging from the trees; and the bushes, appearing as though they were covered with rounded balls of fondant. And all this: it’s just in one corner of the house; and the wind and the falling flakes did this all?

I starred in wonder, Did God do this, or was this the creation of some natural process? I surmise the answer is a bit of both. Honestly, I don’t know. But what I need not surmise about is how our Creator is the master artist, and nothing is impossible for the artist’s hands. Consider what Solomon said:

“(The Lord) has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”

Whether it was God’s hands or nature’s artistry at work, I thank the Lord all the same; for the sights I awoke to this morning made me wanna praise the Lord.

Thank you, Father God, for creating the heavens and the earth; for making the seasons and for making everything beautiful in it’s time. You caused me to marvel this morning and to think upon you, and for that I thank you, for you know what makes me tick.
